Meta Tag
Meta Tags
Behind the scenes of every webpage there is the code that is responsible for how your webpages will look and behave. You need to understand that the search engines bots don't see your webpages the way you see them, they only see the code and it is very important to have a clean code, but we will get to that a little later.
Meta Tags are part of your webpage code and they have great importance in your On Page SEO. The Meta Tags consist of three important parts that we will focus on:
- Title
- Description
- Keywords
This is what the code for these 3 Meta Tags would look like:
Among the three, the Title Tag has the most important role when it comes to SEO. You must include your keyword phrase in the Title Tag and it is recommended that it would be at the beginning. You can enter it twice, but don't overdo it.
The Description Tag, from what I learned doesn't have any effect on SEO and your ranking but, and this is a big but, you should use it very wisely and I will explain.
As you can see in the image below, I typed into Google the keyword phrase "Guitar Lessons" just as an example. The red arrow indicates the Title and the Green Arrows indicates the Description.
You should use the description in order to make people click on your website rather than on any other website. Think of the description as a small sales letter or an ad copy that will make people click and go to your site. It doesn't affect your SEO but it does have a very important role in making people come to your site, so use it wisely and write a compelling description.
In the case that you do have Premium Wordpress Theme, a Theme like Thesis, FlexSquezze or Socrates than you don't need any additional SEO plugins as these themes are already SEO optimized and you will have the control over the Meta Tags using the Theme settings.
Also, as I mentioned before about the code of your site and the need for it to be "clean" you may want to consider purchasing one of these Wordpress Premium Themes as on top of all the benefits you can get from each of them, they are all SEO optimized and have "clean" code that can and will assist you in the rankings. If you want to check about each Theme and their features than here are the links:
- Thesis - http://diythemes.com
- FlexSqueeze - http://www.flexsqueeze.com
- Socrates - http://www.socratestheme.com
All of these will cost you money, but if you are serious about making money online using websites and looking for free traffic from the search engines using SEO, than these themes can give you an edge over the competition. I personally use Thesis and I love it but for the purpose of affiliate marketing FlexSqueeze might be better.
